-
- : What I would try to do is determine if the buzz is originating in the
- : house or outside. Disconnect the house wiring at the telephone company's
- : terminal block in the basement and connect a basic phone directly
- : directly there.
-
- This doesn't always work. Here at work, I get complaints that a line
- coming into our PBX has hum and/or radio stations on it. I go over to
- the MDF and pull off the bridging clips and put a butt set on it, and it
- sounds FINE. This is because the phone set has no capacitance to ground
- and the line can't cause any problems. But when the line is reconnected
- to the PBX, the problem is still there. The ONLY way to check if there
- is a problem with the line is to get the Phone tech out with a meter that
- measures the balance to ground and leakage to ground. Your test with the
- phone will not show this either.
-
- : If there is no buzz, the problem is in the house wiring.
-
- : If the buzz is still there and it is as bad as you indicate, it is the
- : phone company's problem and obligation to fix at no charge.
-
- : If it is in the house wiring, there could be interference due
- : to the way the wiring is run. I would want to see you fix the problem
- : rather than work around it if for no other reason than to eliminate the
- : unlikely possibility that there is some accidental connection to power
- : wiring (very unlikely, but not something you want to risk).
